It all started here
In 1841, Thomas Cook arranged an excursion from Leicester to Loughborough
to attend a temperance meeting. This later became a regular event and in the 1860`s he became an agent for the sale of travel tickets... and the rest as the say is history.
This is the Thomas Cook building on Gallowtreegate in Leicester.
I never really noticed it before untill the other day when I was watching some looney in a microlight flying overhead.
The brickwork above the first floor depicts in relief the mode of travel for the era...trains and ships. The security camera was added at a later date!!!
The building now houses a very expensive hairdressers
