The Bull's Head
Yet ANOTHER rain-lashed day...can you believe it?
Mr A and I went to The Bull's Head for lunch today. Something we rarely do (just the two of us that is) and it was lovely and my first ever visit there. The pub was perfect, a proper old-fashioned pub. This is from The Good Pub Guide:
"Comfortable, spotless and unchanging, based on 1540s timbered hall house, popular esp with older people lunchtime for good value hearty food from sandwiches up inc home-made proper pies (no food Sun eve), small lantern-lit beamed front bar with open fire and some stripped brick, old local prints and bric-a-brac, simple raised back inglenook dining area, friendly helpful staff, Surrey Hills Shere Drop, good coffee, no piped music, games room with darts and pool; no credit cards; children and dogs on leads welcome, disabled access, good play area in neat garden, handy for Clandon Park, good walks"
Mind you, I had to chuckle in the quote above about "especially with older people" as I guess Mr A and I fall into that category now (ha ha). But the point being it's not all frantic sports channels & loud music blaring from speakers just by your head. There were indeed a couple of young families there, and 3 dogs, although there were quite a few (well) over 50's there! Mr A sampled the locally-brewed Surrey Hills Shere Drop and claimed it to be similar to Gales HSB. One fellow diner sounded JUST like Brian from the Archers (an admission if ever there was one - that I might listen to it sometimes!), so much so that I had to come home and Google the guy to check it wasn't him. And it wasn't.
When we came out it was STILL raining, so I actually managed to convince Mr A that it was the sort of afternoon for watching a film and he actually agreed to it! (Shock, horror! But I guess even Action Man likes the odd lazy day when the weather's as bad as this, eh?)
So we settled down to watch 2012 - the story starting with a tale of huge sun flares, then lashing rain (sounding familiar to far?), followed by tsunamis...and I won't give the rest away. But it makes you think, doesn't it...?
