Commercial Arcade

This is a blip of the commercial arcade in St Peter Port. Here's a bit of interesting history.

The commercial arcades were built by a famous Guernsey benefactor called George Le Boutillier (who was born and raised in Jersey). The building of the arcades were no mean feat involving the removal of 125,000 cartloads of soil. The project was abandoned before completion with the intended glass roof never materialising. The colossal financial burden brought ruin to this man of energy and imagination and in 1838 he emigrated to the United States of America
