Hanging lights
This mall is about a 10 minute walk from my place here. It does not have everything under one roof, it is open and invites people to sit and hang around. I wasn't able to capture these hanging lights well enough, but they look beautiful. And each evening there is some sort of performance which becomes a great forerunner for the big festival season.
But people in Calcutta smoke a lot more than their counterparts in other Indian cities. There are huge groups of various ages and most of them are smoking. Everyone in the city suffers the ill effects of passive smoking. Can't help it! But I think this tells a lot about the people in general. And not necessarily the good things.
The government now has imposed a ban on smoking in public places. Let's hope it will be enforced.
P.S. It is a pity that this shot gets so compressed on blip. On my laptop monitor, which is a 17" wide, this one fills the entire screen perfectly. But anyway.
