BC Place open house
I suppose after spending almost 3/4 Billion dollars refurbishing BC Place, the provincial government thought they had better
let the taxpayers see how the money had been spent.
So today was the Open House. Hundreds of people showed up which pissed me off 'cos I wanted to try and get some shots of the cavernous structure
when it's empty. But, we don't always get what we want in life, do we?
The event was set up in such a way that you could wander around where the fancy took you, except in areas that were considered "sensitive",
(equipment rooms and so on). As well as hosting concerts and trade shows, the arena is shared by the two local teams. One is the Whitecaps
MLS football team. The other is the BC Lions CFL gridiron team. (I refuse to call it football, they only kick the bloody ball 6 times per game.)
But it was nice to see the dressing rooms and behind the scenes stuff.
Out on the pitch it was strange to have the feeling of being inside, yet feel the rain through the roof which was open.
To give you some sense of scale, the roof opens to reveal the entire area of the pitch while keeping spectators comfortably dry
(BTW, The boss, with a wry smile on her face, thought the whole thing was.. "riveting".)
After that it was off to the pub to watch the Caps on TV at their away game with Columbus. (We absolutely stole a 0-1 victory)
Superb steak and Guinness pie and too many pints of the black stuff. Great day
Ah well. Until tomorrow....
