Songs of a dourdough
Have had a very quiet day today as I have a tummy bug......however, C came out in the afternoon and although I was sleeping, she left a copy of 'Songs of a Sourdough' , poems by Robert Service.
Robert Service was born in Lancashire in 1874 and educated in Glasgow. He emigrated to Canada and spent eight years in the Yukon where he wrote many of his ballads. He became a journalist on return to Europe, and was an ambulance driver in the First World War. He spent the rest of his life in France and died in 1958.
I find his poems fascinating, giving such an insight into a very rough way of life in Canada. Thanks C for leaving the book.
