Dundee FC, Champions of Scotland
50 years ago this morning thousands of Dundonians woke up with severe hangovers. The cause? Dundee FC had clinched the Scottish First Division title with a 3-0 win at St Johnstone the previous afternoon.
Two of the goals were scored by Coupar Angus lad Alan Gilzean who would go on to great things with Tottenham Hotspur.
Dundee FC had an impressive run in the following season's European Champions' Cup, reaching the semi-final stages. The city is a member of a very select group of places that has produced two clubs who have achieved this, Dundee United doing so in 1984.
Jim Wilkie's 'Across the Great Divide' traces the history of both clubs in the most entertaining football book I've ever read.
Happy hangover to celebrating Dundee fans everywhere!
