"Water,water everywhere,nor any drop to drink

So said the Ancient Mariner.
He'd feel at home in Britain today: despite the rain bucketing down day after day we remain officially drought-stricken. Parts of the country are waterlogged, while in others it's illegal to use a hosepipe.

However today has been beautiful, warm and sunny. 20c.
Made the most of it and had a drive out.
We were going to picnic at Naburn Locks, but it was flooded!
So we pulled up in a field gateway near by.
This was the view from the car. Haven't done anything with the photo. This is the colour it was!
Somewhere in the middle of that water is the river Ouse.
I know the fields are flooded, and probably some crops ruined, but what a wonderful sight.
I loved the layers of this shot, with the sky,clouds,trees,yellow rape,blue water,and then green fields.

We called at RSPB Fairburn Ings on the way back, but didn't walk very far as that was flooded too! I'm afraid a lot of nests will have been washed away. The swans will have to start building all over again.

There was a very good article in The Telegraph on 29 April written by James Dyson.
He says we must learn from the Victorians to put right the water problems.
