Cowie Water

About 1.5km west of the Stonehaven Bypass, a minor road heads off the Stonehaven-Auchenblae backroad and parallels the A957 Slug Road for several kilometres, before eventually joining it about 4km below the summit.

About 2km before the A957 junction, the minor road doubles back and crosses the Cowie Water, flowing out of the Fetteresso Forest on its way to meet the sea on the north side of Stonehaven.

Stopping the car and looking down from the bridge parapet late this afternoon, I was fascinated by the 'zigzag' pattern of fences and old steel farm gates preventing farm animals from fording the burn at this point.
