Leopard, Yala National Park, Sri Lanka (Mahoora)
I was on a Mahoora Luxury Tented Safari in Yala National Park with my family. Yala National Park has since 2001, acquired a reputation for being the best site to see and photograph leopards. Block 1 of the park is believed to have the highest density of leopard in the world because of a high prey density resulting from the availability of fresh water and grassland.
Our Mahoora driver Priyantha Herath Mudaliyansage was experienced in handling photographers and anticipated where this sub adult female was likely to cross the road. She first climbed up a low lying branch to look out for danger before crossing the road. I took this shot as she examined the road from her vantage point.
