That'll be that then

The fifth and final season of possibly the greatest TV show ever arrived from Amazon this week. We'd actually already seen it but we had the DVDs for the first four seasons so thought we'd better complete the set.

We'd missed it when it first started but were alerted to it by Charlie Brooker practically gushing about how good it was. Anyone familiar with Brooker's columns and shows will know how rare it is that he gushes about anything. We decided to give it a try and never looked back. It very quickly went from enjoyment to compulsion.

It's quite simply some of the best characterisation and story telling I've ever seen on TV. If you've not got round to seeing it yet I couldn't recommend it highly enough. I saw a great quote the other day saying something like "You either love the Wire or you haven't seen it yet." It's been compared to the Sopranos a lot but that's mainly because it's an HBO show with an ensemble cast.

Seriously though if you haven't seen it yet buy, borrowor steal the first season.
