Packhorse Bridge

Backblipped for Thursday

We nipped into Anstey before going to visit my nearly-92-year old Aunt, so took a quick photo of the packhorse bridge over the Anstey Brook. This is unusual in having four pairs of cutwaters and pedestrian refuges and so five arches. There are two other packhorse bridges further downstream which have the more usual two arches.

Edit: The date of the bridge is given as either ca. 1500 or C17, depending on the expert quoted; however the fact that one of the other bridges was enlarged in the C17 for King William 111's carriage to cross, may have caused confusion.

After a nice long visit and delicious lunch with my Aunt in her residential home we drove across to Shrewsbury through slow traffic.

The weather varied between sunshine and squally showers but didn't cause any problems this time.
