Life Dancing

Dancing in the Street

Or Square, actually
Young dancers were being filmed as I crossed George Square late afternoon.
Didn't have time to stop and find out more.

Although I had some full body group shots -
(a passerby stepped right in front of me just as the jump sequence started)
felt his fearless leap deserved to be seen.

Weather has improved...and the beautiful pink evening sky (almost blipped)
is surely a good omen.

Fellow blipper captured the sky HERE

Brilliant song...

Martha and the Vandella's

For a while, way back when, I lived above two painters, Al and Al, in the city centre
Hogmanay was still the real deal, meaning... people still hosted parties.
You could travel across the city unhindered by barricades and without having to buy a ticket for a commercialised event.

Huge numbers would "see the bells in" at the Tron then make their way to gatherings to celebrate with friends or family, often with a few first footing stops lined up on the way.
It could go on all night the next day... sometimes longer
Pre mobile phones you took your chances on finding the liveliest gatherings

That particular year everyone in the surrounding buildings seemed to be celebrating.
Being close to the Tron meant we usually had a lively assortment of visitors not least when friends arrived at our party with 20 Texans in tow. Yee hah!

Our jive was jumpin' when suddenly, cutting through even our loud revelling was the sound of Martha and the Vandellas at full blast.

Looking out the window we saw that not only had Al and Al put their speakers on the window ledge to blast the sound onto the street, their gathering had descended onto the road for a literal interpretation - of Dancing in the Street

In no time, people from surrounding parties ( including ours) were piling onto the street, dancing, sharing drinks and plates of food
There weren't many cars on the road but one or two had to swerve to avoid the dancers
SUDDENLY a very flash large car screeched to a halt right next to the party people
Out stepped two formidable looking blokes... I mean these were huge guys
For a moment it looked as if they might kick off for us blocking the road - until one of them jumped up on the bonnet of the car and started shaking his booty for all he was worth - followed by sighs of relief and much laughter

Not satisfied with the cars getting in the way of the partying they then drove the car so it lay across the middle of the street, effectively blocking all other vehicles.

The party continued for about another 15 minutes
(during which time one less enthusiastic neighbour threw a bucket of icy water out over the people below without so much as a Gardee loo !
That didnt dampen spirits though and it wasn't until a Police car raced up that we knew the gig was finally up

The two titans turned out to be from the New Zealand rugby team over in Scotland for a game
The car parked in the middle of the road took some explaining but fortunately the Rozzers were in benevolent mood and instructed the NZ guys to park the car properly and head to their hotel on foot
