Norman Hill

A stroll up a favourite valley today, taking in the Ogden, Piethorne and Norman Hill Reservoirs. I have to confess that I ignored the "No Public Access" and "Trespassers Will Be Prosecuted" signs. Sorry to any United Utilities legal people but I took nothing but photographs, left nothing but footprints and did not pollute the water supply. And, after all, until not very long ago, this was public not private property.

At the head of the valley, the inlet to the Norman Hill Reservoir, is this small ruined stone house built, I assume, as a shelter/tool shed for people constructing the reservoir or, perhaps, quarrying stone. There are the remains of a very light railway line to near to the hut which I assume carried trucks full of stone (or something.) I think the name Norman Hill refers to the name of a hill not a person. But I'm not sure.

I confounded my own expectations today. The original intention was that this would be another B&W shot but I chose a colour version, which I think is more interesting. Some more from today, including some mono shots, can be seen here.
