Whatever happened to modest architecture...?

I will not pretend to know a great deal about architecture but the universities new (and very expensive) library just doesn't sit right with me.
I recognise that it is quite an impressive building but it really does not seem fitting with the rest of the famously "old" university.

And anyway... it looks like a zebra!
