Snips and Snaps

A Touch of Tibet...

in Standish! St Wilfred's is a grade I listed building with many blipportunities to be had. The church is first mentioned in 1205, but the present building is believed to have been constructed between 1582 and 1584 and designed by L. Shipway. It is in a blended Gothic and Renaissance style with later additions.

A lovely day today so was tempted to stop off on the way home. I couldn't decide between one of the lovely gothic windows or the distinctive Himalayan Birch Bark Cherry tree (Prunus serrula 'Tibetica'). So here's both. Just love this deep mahogany burnished trunk with the contrasting stripes and peeling bark. A quick google tells me that it was introduced to Britain by Ernest 'Chinese' Wilson in 1908.

Friday-eve everybody and a long weekend in the Lakes beckons - let the packing commence :)
