About to get the chop
Not my parents, but it's the opening of the duck hunting season tomorrow and the chopping block comes in handy.
After a stylish meal out courtesy of the hunter last night, we all had a slow start today. (Except the hunter who doesn't know the meaning of slow start and disappeared to deal with dogs and final duck hunting preparations).
Pottering, odd jobs and a few problem solving things with Dad. He's impressed I've managed this week to correct a problem with my fridge where it was freezing some items and fix a loose connection in the control on one side of an electric blanket.
I couldn't fix my coffee machine and after 2.5 weeks it's back home. Life hasn't been the same without it ;-)
This afternoon we drove out to the hunter's place. He's very excited as the duck hunting season opens tomorrow. The hunter has a long tradition of mates from all over NZ coming to stay for the opening weekend. They've set up their decoys, guns are cleaned, ammo is ready, beer in the fridge, mountains of food prepared and warning signs are up.
Mum and Dad met some of his hunting dogs, and viewed both of his ponds. They've also met Pumbaa the pet wild pig. Mum was game to pat him but Dad didn't ;-) A good time was had by all.
The hunter has phoned. The boys have all gone to bed and he's tucked up in bed anticipating the first shots at 6.30am tomorrow.
Time is so short and you have to make the most of what you have.
A note about duck hunting. Without a duck hunting season the duck population grows to the point where Botulism breaks out.
