May the 4th ... Remembrance Day

Today is my weekly Friday with mum in Flushing. It is a bit gray, dark day. After shopping and lunch we visit the statue commemorating the liberation of the city of Vlissingen in the 4th command, which was part of the army of the Allies in World War II.

On the 1st of November 1944 the 52 Lowland Devision landed here from Breskens to liberate the island (of Walcheren, on which the city of Flushing is situated).

The statue was erected in memory of all ranks of Nr. 4 Commando who fell during the war 139-1945 and to the loyal citizens of Flushing who were killed during the occupation and at the hour of their liberation.

This evening, at 20H00 sharp, there's a national silence in the country for 2 minutes, for the memory of those who fell in World War II and for all victims of war and violence in general ... Lest we forget ...
