Death Penny
My OH had a Great Uncle Thomas, who was killed during the first World War.
He was leading a horse, carrying a Senior Officer, when either he or the horse stepped on a mine. He was only 19 years old at the time.
These bronze plaques were sent to the families of servicemen who were killed in action. They are commonly known as Death Pennies.....not much consolation for losing your son.
