Groyne stretch
I have photographed this stretch of beach on my previous trip to Northumberland in February, and today we were back. We came without my boys but with our running gear.
We left our footsteps on the beach and travelled the hard packed sand, with the sea trying to catch our heels. Our effort was fine but our speed was ebbing along with the tide.
Steve explained that this wooden structure is a groyne, and it is designed to prevent coastal erosion.
Following a family visit we are now tucked indoors with food simmering and the wine disappearing.
A lovely day.
