The Living Years

School Graduation

This morning the year 11s got to school at 5am to decorate. Unfortunately I didn't get to school early enough to take photos but it looked great. Masses of flowers round doorways, on stairs, banisters, window sills and everywhere else! It looked as pretty as a picture.

The ceremony starts with a parade through the school then everyone assembles outside. There are speeches and prizes for about an hour and then the parents get to pounce on their darlings. I have never seen so many flowers, big elaborate bouquets and people get maybe 5 or 10! I do love to have a giggle at the parents at events like these, the way they all push to the front, trying to get the best position for their videos and photos.

A lady who was wearing just a very tight short slip may have forgotten her dress!

Before the ceremony students get a small bag with the year embroidered on and inside there is a tiny scone, a 1 forint coin, a little bag of salt, another of paprika and a picture of the school. They also get a red rose and a wooden axe. They are supposed to represent different things, the scone for sustenance and the axe to break down the walls that may stand in your way etc.

They will all go home and have big family parties at home today. Then on Monday their exams will start.

After the ceremony the teachers went to the library to have a toast, hence the blip.

Then it was time to sit in my friend's garden, enjoy the sunshine and chat with a cold beer. L and I have had a nice relaxing afternoon and evening. We have also got very addicted to a silly logo quiz on my ipod.
