Tomorrowland

The Midtown Greenway is a sunken bicycle path that runs along the southern neighborhoods of Minneapolis, and Lake Street, which is the cultural heart of the city. It used to be a train track, and still one half remains that way because the railroad doesn't want to sell it. To those of your from more enlightened communities, stuff like this is everywhere, but it's a big deal for the US. The success of the Greenway has been helpful in getting other bike projects on the agenda, as well as encouraging more people to bike, but it's always a struggle.

In Copenhagen, nearly 40% of commuters bike to work. In the Twin Cities-ranked a few years ago as the best bike city in the US-the figure is 3%. Our cities aren't really built for this, and it takes major projects, like the Greenway, essentially a bike highway to make it happen.
