Red Cowslips - Primula veris
A dull cold day again and this afternoon it is raining again. What to blip seemed a daunting task today? The buzzard which lives nearby was circling around, but far too far away and high for anything other than a blurry photograph. Then I saw these red cowslips, complete with raindrops, Primula veris, which it seems are a variation on the yellow ones.
They are flowering in one of the small borders which is a bit overgrown, but this is where we put a variety of plants about two years ago. I have never seen this one before, but can only assume that it came from a garden centre; it seems red-flowering cowslips occur only rarely in the wild.
