Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

By Carol

An Envelope of Reminder

Yesterday Mr. Fun pulled an envelope from the mailbox sent to us by his aunt Pat who lives in Florida.

He immediately tore it open and then the oooohs and aaaaahs began. Aunt Pat had sent three photos of Mr. Fun as a 19 month old toddler with his dad, and a newspaper clipping, and a brief letter.

The house in the background is where Mr. Fun's family lived for about 10 years, and then with inheritance money from Mr. Fun's paternal grandmother, his parents built their own home a few blocks away. It was just in the past eight or so years that the old house was torn down so a new apartment complex could be built. His mom still lives in the house they built in 1955.

Mr. Fun's dad has been dead since July of 2007, so this photo of him when he was 27 years old is a treasure.

We haven't seen Aunt Pat in years (actually, I can't remember if I've ever met her). We have been fairly out of touch with her for years. We do send Christmas cards. She is 10 years younger than Mr. Fun's mom and never had children of her own. One line in the letter is very touching. She writes, "I loved you so much." She lived in Indiana, so would only see the family that's here in California very seldom.

It was an envelope of reminder -- reminder that photos are so important. That's why I come back to Blipfoto every day . . . to record photos and thoughts and the magic that this place contains.

Good night from Southern California.

Read the challenge, sign in to participate if you want, and tag your entry "Molly-Tuscany" and then watch for the postings tomorrow.
