Mrs GOG Mowing
Today the sky has some blue and for the present it has ceased raining; I understand that more is likely later today and for most of this week!
Although there were many other things that both of us should have been doing, we decided that we ought to use this brief respite from the rain, to get the grass hacked to some 6 inches in length rather than its present foot or so. Both mowers were set at their maximum height, with blades some six inches off the ground, so the cut quality is very poor. I used the ride on, since I cannot currently push the mower without risk of falling over, while Mrs GOG pushed our little petrol mower over some of the drier bits that the ride on cannot reach.
Due to the quantity of standing water there was a high risk of getting the ride on stuck, so most cutting was poor as speed had to be kept high and the part near the pond missed out all together. Even so in the lower part of the garden, the mower was cutting below the water! I finished my work before Mrs GOG, made coffee and collected my camera, while she was still at work. This picture is of Mrs GOG cutting grass on the bank as I went close enough to shout coffee over the noise of the mower.
It was a quick and rough job, which took each of us a couple of hours, but we both thought that it had been worthwhile. Most of the grass is some six or eight inches shorter than it was and despite it being hacked rather than cut it does look better, the cats think so too as they can now see over most of it, rather than trying to peer through it.
As you can see in the picture, the next garden job will be to remove some of the weeds, most of which are now higher than the garden plants, but that is for another dryish day.
