House for an Art Lover
Ah what to do on a rainy Bank Holiday Monday when you wake up at 5.30am. Usually I have to set at least two alarms to get me up in time for work...but always on a day off I'm up with the larks.
I discovered I can be amazingly productive at that time. By 11 I'd cleaned my flat, baked a cake and some bread and watched the last episode of Homeland (I knew he'd been turned!).
I then went to House for an Art Lover, which is set in Bellahouston Park. I've been meaning to go to since I moved to Glasgow three years ago but it never seems to be open at the weekend as they have so many weddings.
The interior and furnishings in the house were designed by Charles Rennie Macintosh and his wife Margaret Macdonald, who was a talented decorative artist. Both she and her husband drew up the original designs in 1901 for a German competition that aimed to support innovation in modern design. However, they missed the deadline (creatures after my own heart) so were not eligible for entry. However, their plans were bought to life 90 years later by a team of designers. It has a wonderfully modern and fresh feel; amazing when contrasted with the victoriana that was fashionable at the time.
This is a picture of the music room; the central feature being the piano.
Off to the cinema to see a scary film now (quiver)
