From Our Mind's Eye
Seeing the rich and wide variety of images being created on this web site has had quite a deep impact on me. Reading the journals in which others describe their experiences in other countries, or their personal joys and sorrows as they navigate life has been humbling.
As photographers we play with light, we try to bend and sculpt it to convey meaning and emotion. Yet it seems to me that these journals reveal that we all start with a glimmer of imagination and feeling that, having moved across the mindscape of our creativity, tries to express itself in the images we create.
There is a cliched phrase about opening our mind's eye to really see what is around, and I wondered how to express visually that it is not so much the light coming into the eye that is the most important but rather the expression of the inspiration coming out. Well this image is my attempt.
Nothing clever with this. Black background, shoved a LED light inside the bellows, side lit with a candle to give a bit of a yellow colour caste on the camera - and then lit a small bomb fire in the office for smoke whilst attempted to take the photo before Ruth caught me!!
