Going Up

Building in Phnom Penh is insane, for a number of reasons: the speed with which it is happening and the way in which it is done being just two of them. This is taken from out flat window and there is a similar scene in every direction. The skyline 360 degrees around us has changed completely since we moved in 18 months ago.

As you can see, despite the Safety first signs on the sites, it is not a safety we recognise, and it is common to see guys on top of makeshift bamboo/ metal rod scaffolding high in the sky (what this picture may not show is that the building in the distance is at least 10 stories high). What's more, there was fork lightening in the sky at the time this was taken. And no sun protection! This work is insane!
