Playing Around

My goal today was to get the front garden further along toward completion, so this morning I headed off to a nearby nursery, list in hand, hoping to come back with all the plants we need.

Despite its extensive size -- this is only about 20% of what's there -- I wasn't able to purchase all the plants on my list. That's just as well, considering what plants cost and how much more space I managed to clear in the garden.

I spent all afternoon outside and got into the mellow mood that playing in the dirt always brings me. Several neighbors stopped by to ask what I was doing and pass the time of day, and our resident hummingbird whizzed back and forth, making it quite clear that in his opinion, I should immediately vacate the front yard so he could dine at the hummingbird feeder without an audience.

Phil picked up some food for supper at the Community Food Co-op following his late afternoon meeting, knowing that after more than four hours of gardening, I wouldn't be interested in making an evening meal (fair play, I did make a nice lunch). That plus a glass of a pleasant French white wine hit the spot -- and then I noticed the interesting reflections in my water glass. (I might have noticed the same reflections in my wine glass, but it was empty.)

I wasn't content to take just one shot -- I had to play around with those reflections, just as I had played around with plant placement in the garden. Both were great fun, and the summer shades in today's blip remind me that warmer weather will eventually settle in, even here!

(May 9 addendum: I liked Lady Findhorn's suggestion to try cropping tighter. See what you think of this and this.)
