The white ship is the Norrona from Faroe. When Smyril line started coming back to Shetland in 1998 it was the start of our annual trip to Norway. In the early days we travelled over on the old Norrona before the new one seen here was built with the help of Shetland money. Unfortunately it proved too big for a down turning industry and pulled out of Shetland in 2007 and we now have to fly to Norway. In fact there is now no ferry to Norway from anywhere in the UK.
The blue boat is of course the NorthLink ferry Hrossey but NorthLink have just lost the contract to serve the Northern Isles which has come as a bit of a surprise. The existing boats will still be used and apparently will be the same colours to save money when Serco take over very soon.
