Down'ards Goal!

This is the sight of the "Down'ards" goal (the stone in the background) of the annual Royal Ashbourne Shrovetide Football

Hundreds of players take part, with goals being around four miles apart & the town of Ashbourne right in the middle!

It takes place on Shrove Tuesday & Ash Wednesday with the ball being "turned-up" at 2pm on each day in the town centre. The day begins with a lunch & lots to drink from noon!

Ashbourne looks like downtown Beruit by the time the game finishes at 10pm!
