Breaking News !!!.........1914 Style
Bit of a personal Blip today.
This is the Glasgow Evening Times 'War Special' from Sunday Auust 2nd. 1914.
Belonged to my Grandad, who served in the Royal Horse Artillery in WW1.
The items on the right are: a tobacco pouch, made and decorated by him. and a trench lighter.
Part of the wording on the pouch reads "In the event of my death, please return to.........." and the name was my gran's maiden name, as they hadn't married at that point! He had also adorned it with the Regimental crest, and being a proud Scot, added 2 thistles with the motto " Scotland Forever "
The trench lighter is really pretty clever.................the outer casing can be slid up over the flint - wheel and wick, so that the flame was obscured to snipers (smart or what ? ).
Going to attempt to piece/join together the newspaper, before it disintegrates !!!!
