Blackheath Day

Today was Blackheath Day, held to commemorate the day in 1815 when the governor of New South Wales, Lachlan Macquarie, passed through Blackheath on the new road to Bathurst.

Actually he named Blackheath on his return journey.  On the outward journey he named it Hounslow, but apparently changed his mind.

So there was cake cutting, speeches given by a few local dignitaries and entertainment in the park, mainly for the children.

Great fun for all.
