What were they doing?

Two really impressive BC sites adjacent. Both exposed to the south west wind. Today the wind is from the North driving us back to the ferry. Why build this here?

These are probably the most touristy things (apart from the landscape and beaches) in the western isles south of callenish. Yet there is no commercialisation, merely a couple of tourist info signs on the main road.

MyMate and I wondered all week how the economy survives here, with a short tourist season. We visited a great pub yesterday - The Westford Inn on the A865 just before the B road that cuts inland to Solas. Real beer on tap, Bottled beer from Cardiff (Brains) and Essex (Dunstable) as well as white shield. Chatting to the owner behind the bar they rely on tourists. There was one local in when we were there - albeit during the day. How does this work.
