The Fig Tree
... or what remains of it after two very cold weeks.
This fig tree, which did so well against the Berlin Wall on the northwest side of the driveway, has perished. It is still bleeding a little, so there is life. I hope it will start again from its stump, as it did in 2005 after a -20 on the first of march.
Somewhere tucked away behind the berries, against another section of the Berlin Wall, is another fig tree. It is not nearly as large and has languished there for some years now. I will probably replant in in autumn to a more prominent sport.
I had such a grand vision of this fig growing like the fig tree in Sissinghurst gardens (one of my great inspirations) but I fear the climate is just too cold for a fig to thrive.
