Robinson Crusoe woz 'ere
What a day! The sun was shining, it was warm - we abandoned everything and I hauled himself off on an adventure. Our desination - Castletownsend and Toe Head. I have a new book on interesting archaeological things in West Cork so will now be unbearable. We had a brilliant day and saw:
+ a reconstructed Iron Age stone ring fort, complete with souterrain, unfortunately blocked in - this is a set of underground rooms that no-one seems sure what they were used for
+ a stone row unfortunately surrounded by big black cattle so we admired from afar
+ the remains of a star shaped fort
+ the burial place of the authors Somerville and Ross (An Irish RM)
+ the remains of an impressive signal tower complete with bits of slate tiling and an astonishing view
+ a promontary fort in a wild and remote, windswept place complete with little dodgy pathway above the cliffs from one bit to the other
+ a tiny holy well dedicate to St Barrahane, covered in ribbons and buoys
+ several posh yachts
+ a man preparing for a beach party - on this beach, complete with fairy lights and enormous speakers
+ a lot of very tiny windy roads with flower strewn centres
+ some gob smacking coastal views
I paddled and it was cold.
We ate at Mary Jane's in Castletownsend and watched the crows disappear into chimney pots where they had their nests.
Now we are wrecked and sunburnt!! We're currently into the Game of Thrones - dead good.
