Bikes, Buses, Beauty!
We couldn't have had better weather for the Bellingham Farmers Market today, and between the sunshine and people shopping for Mother's Day tomorrow, it was packed! Just outside the market was Bike Expo, hosted by Everybody Bike, which promotes bicycling as a viable transportation option. Among the activities was the opportunity to practice loading your bicycke onto a very colorful Whatcom Transit Authority bus, reducing anxiety for first-time bicycling/bus commuters.
The colors of the day were beautifully captured in this new member of the latest sheep collection by Twigg and Bek, among my favorite vendors at the Bellingham Farmers Market, and in tulips of glorious hue, bargain-priced for Mother's Day at 10 for $8 (5 GBP / 6 Euro). My favorite, however, was the sublime asparagus pictured above -- a fleeting seasonal treat to be savored!
Son W came up from Seattle and joined us at the market in time for lunch; afterward he and M spent some time in town, while I continued to puzzle over the best options for our front garden revision and Phil took a nap. In late afternoon we all regrouped and enjoyed an informal meal of fresh bread, cheeses, smoked salmon, salad, and wine, topped off with the unctuous Mount Bakery chocolate truffle cake I "won" at last night's Girls Night Out and lots of good conversation and laughter during our belated celebration of M's birthday last weekend.
Mother's Day on Sunday will begin with homemade waffles made by Phil and some sparkling wine, and in the afternoon M, Phil, and I will go to what looks to be a wonderful concert of opera favorites by the Whatcom Symphony and the Bellingham Chamber Chorale, plus soloists. W has to get back to Seattle in late afternoon, so he won't be able to go with us, unfortunately.
I'll catch up with you all in the early part of next week!
(Here's Phil's take on the day...)
