Purple Mountain

Second day in Nanjing

Unfortunately today was a little bit of a rainy day. It got worse as the day progressed. But since we are real world travelers, we went out anyway! Cause today would be the day we climbed the Purple Mountain.

Objective one: find the Mountain, which was a little bit more difficult then we would have expected it to be. Maybe because of the weather, but I think also because of the roads leading there, and most definitely because we apparently got out at the wrong subway station. Once up the mountain, finding our way was also not as easy as we would have thought beforehand. The signs were not that obvious and the places we wanted to see were quite far apart. We walked around the whole morning and part of the afternoon and saw all the main things we wanted to see. Around 3 o'clock we decided that it was time to go back to the hostel. I have to state that by this time my shoes were filled with water and I could feel my feet having a foot bath they were not enjoying anymore.. And I was not the only one who experienced some shoe trouble.

So we went back to the hostel, dried up and re-energized. Of course, when we got back to the hostel, the rain stopped. So in the evening we went out and had a walk about the shopping centre just next to our hostel. We were amazed by all the small pet shops with animals in very small cages. It was very, very sad!

When I got dark we went towards the river to go on a boat ride. It was the best! It had music, lights and nobody staring at us, because it was to dark :P
Beth made amazing pictures with her wonderful good camera (jealous much? YES!), while Marlene and I were just totally stunned and enjoyed the whole scene.

After this we still needed to get some dinner. We went back to our street where we saw a noodle stand the first night, but it wasn't there :( So we went to our big favorite restaurant they have every where we go: the big yellow arches (also Beth always seems to find one even though it seems like there are none around).
We went back to the hostel for some PC time and reading. I ended up chatting with Beth till about 1 o'clock, while Marlene went back to our room to watch a movie.
