The old chained oak tree

There's a ride at Alton Towers that starts with a video.

It explains that ages back there was a Lord who refused to give some gypsy beggar a couple coppers on his way through the woods.

The gypsy cursed his ass and from then on if any branch fell from the oak tree a member of his family would die. So the lord had all the branches chained up to beat the curse.

Then comes the ride bit and it all seems like a bit of fun.

But today we got up for a walk before breakfast and actually found the old oak tree complete with thick rusty chains.

It had grown in and around the chains so they were actually coming through the wood and body of the tree.

So I guess some of it must be true.

Pretty creepy.
