Sunset from Berry Head
Tonight we went on an organised bat watch at Berry Head, Brixham. We stood at the top of the quarry and waited for our own quarry to emerge and our bat recorders to burst into life. Disappointingly only one or two came out probably because it was too cold. It was worth it though for the sunset over Dartmoor and the view across the bay of the street lamps, strings of coloured lights, and shining hotel windows of Torquay. Just before dark a fishing boat rounded the head pointing towards Brixham harbour, all lights full on, the noise of the engine at odds with the eerie silence in which we were trying to conjure up bats.
