End of the road
Part of the inspiration for coming to Uzbekistan was reading a book called A Carpet Ride to Khiva, about someone who sets up a UNESCO-funded silk carpet weaving workshop with some Uzbek colleagues.
Today we made it to this workshop and then realised we were staying in the same place that this guy had lived for 7 years. We looked a little like stalkers.
Khiva is a remarkable place, completely walled in, relaxed, ancient, with amazing sights around every corner and not so overrun with tourists that you can't find a nice quiet place and sit there reading a book in the hot sun. I'd almost forgotten that I've got a job to go back to.
