Noisy Neighbours
It seems a little bit weird editing a photo you took exactly twelve hours ago, but two hundred twenty miles away from my current location.
We are back home after a brilliant trip to Lincolnshire. We decided we couldn't trust the weather enough to stop at RSPB Middleton Lakes on the way back, so we had an hour and a half at Freiston again this morning.
There is a huge Black Headed Gull colony building up on the lagoon there at the moment, and we spent half an hour watching a listening to all the interactions going on on the scrape. It was fascinating to see how they were all jostling for the best nesting sites as they came in land with beaks full of nesting material. The noise of they cacking calls was quite something. In amongst them was a lone avocet, adding a little decorum to proceedings! There was a sudden commotion and the whole colony went into the air. There was a Peregrine Falcon flying low over the scrape. Quite an end to quite a four days of birding!
We had a fairly good journey back. We got stuck on the M6 for a bit, but not too long.
It's good to be back in our own bed tonight, but good to k now we will be back in Lincolnshire again in a few weeks time for Dawn's dads 65th birthday bash!
