LOGGING ON

I was hanging about watching the activity at the Port of Lyttelton and I got engaged in a conversation with a lady who was obviously upset about the felling and export of all these logs.  She wasnt having a bar of it.  She was counting the rings on the logs and telling me how old the trees had been.
I said to her they were pine trees and sustainable - not natives and unsustainable - I also said to her that most of them had been blown over by recent storms and were being cleared to tidy up - No she wasnt having a bar of it - I said to her I wondered if they were in fact being felled to make way for more dairy farms - this really set her off !!??
