Train delays

Day 9 of our India trip - our last full day in India.

According to the itinerary, today would be spent sightseeing in Delhi (having arrived on the overnight train from Varanasi at 7.30am).  Sadly, it didn't quite work out like that.

The train had been due to leave Varanasi in the early evening, but our guide had checked the trains and found that they were running late.   So we stayed on and ate in the hotel before leaving late in the evening to get to the station.  When we arrived at the station, we found that the train was running even later, and the arrival time was still uncertain.  We went down to the platform so as to be sure not to miss it, and then had to wait there for several hours.  This picture is of our forlorn group of photographers at around 1am this morning, patiently waiting for our train to arrive.  In the end it didn't come for nearly another two hours.

We managed to find our berths and settle down to sleep, but when we woke we found that there had been further delays and the train was still moving very slowly.  We didn't actually reach our destination at New Delhi until after 10pm (nearly 15 hours late).  We went straight to the hotel, had a late meal, and then went to bed.  

So a disappointing end to an amazing holiday, but I guess it was all part of the experience of Indian life and still leaves me with some incredible memories. 

I need to be up early in the morning to get to the airport for our flight home.
