Blue Belle
I had to go back to that blue bell wood today. Its so ephemeral, and who knows what the weather will do. Yesterday they would have been covered in hailstones, today is very breezy, yet they keep their beauty. I've been reading up about english blue bell woods and they are quite special.
The carpet of bluebells is an indicator that this is a very ancient woodland, probably been there since the 1600's. There are two types of blue bells in Britain, the native one's and the spanish ones that have been introduced into gardens. The native bluebell has a much deeper blue colour and the stems look different. So I went back to check: Yes they are much bluer than the ones in my garden and yes there are some really old oak and beech trees here that look like they may be more than 400 years old!
