Fungus

Fungus is a bit of a mystery to me.  I've tried to identify this against several keys without success and yet it probably is something very common.  We found this while cutting back vegetation on a footpath south of the village and scraping leaf mould off a bridge.  Neither activity produced any photos worth saving.
