Candles against the dark

As the solstice passes, the rain falls relentlessly. It has been gloomy all day, too dark indoors to read from midday onward. The window that in summer catches the sun from noon till mid-evening is a pitch black rectangle dominating the room. No wonder we light our candles to dispel that dark - with the warm glow of our orange Advent candle reminding us that the sun will come, the Son will come.
