How I met my match
Hail today so I got home this evening having failed to get any interesting shots at all. This gave me the excuse to do a bit of experimenting that I've meant to do for a while - trying to get a macro with higher than 1:1 magnification. This is my first attempt - a 105mm lens on the camera with a 50mm lens reverse mounted to it. It's lit by flash and that turned out to be the trickiest part of the whole process - when you're working at this scale it's tricky to insert the light without flashing into the lens (hence the lens flare bottom left). The depth of field even at f/22 seems to be of the order of half a millimetre so perhaps the next experiment will be focus stacking.
