How do you get to the Airport?

Travelling to Heathrow for a Christmas trip to Polska. Taking the London Underground to get to the airport is a bit of a mystery, it seems rather random as to whether the train you board will actually take you to the destination advertised. I don't mind though as it's quite interesting, as long as we don't miss the flight!
