The rebuild

There are so many nice people in the world, it's a shame these hardworking little birds had to strike one of the "not very nice at all" people.

They have had a nest here for some years and had used it to raise 2 broods already this year. They had just started brooding the third brood, when yesterday some horrible person smashed the nest down. I simply don't understand what a person could gain from destroying the nest of a small bird. I went in and there it was lying on the ground completely broken.

But today, the two little birds are hard at work, gathering damp mud from the lagoon, and rebuilding. Maybe there's a lesson there for all of us. I just hope that whoever broke the first nest doesn't come back to destroy this one.

Not particularly sharp, as it was hand held at very slow shutter speed and ISO800 which really is too much, but didn't want to use the flash and scare them, they've had enough trouble with people already!
